Looking ....

Looking to acquire the bottom 12 or so feet of a wrecked C-34 mast. Any thoughts on a salvager who might have one?

For those wondering...My C34 winters at our house under a shrink wrap cover. When we acquired her, she came with a new custom fit cover. This cover depends on the mast, boom and whisker pole to be in place. Thinking that I could use the bottom of a totaled out mast to make the cover work.

If you're only using it as a ridge pole, any mast that is long enough and strong enough should work. Wouldn't have to be a C34 mast. That should make it easier to find a suitable mast.

Dave, It would be nice ( better) if the step matched up.

Missed a detail. Thought the mast would be laid across the pushpit and pulpit to form ridge pole. You could probably fabricate a suitable pole using some 12' 2x6s. Cut the base to fit the mast step and figure out a way to support the boom. Couldn't be too hard. Fairly cheap too.

It might be easier to just order a length of mast stock to fit the step. Years ago I was hoping to find a used mast for my O'Day 23, and it was pointed out to me that most wrecked boats come without the masts, since the mast is relatively fragile and is the first thing to get damaged. Most yards don't hold onto the damaged rigging. I ended up commissioning all new standing rigging and mast.

That actually is my fall back position..But if I can locate an inexpensive lower section of mast, that would be the cat's meow...

I don't see why any round alloy tube with a max diameter of the narrowest measurement of the step wouldn't do. Then you could screw in the pole fitting and the boom goose-neck fitting and you'd be fine. At a fraction of a mast's cost.
