Looking towards buying a 1988 Hunter Legend 37. Haven't actually seen one yet hoewever. We currently have a 33.5 which has that feature which allows for 3 couple to sleep in seperate rooms. Therefore we are curious about sleeping arrangements. Does the table go down and turn into a double bed? Any other general feedback on the boat design and/or pre-purchase inspection suggestions would be happily received as well.

I own an '88

Good day, I own one of these, and no the table does not convert to a double. The boat will sleep six though, aft cabin has a centerline queen size island berth, the front cabin has a very large v berth, and in the main salon are two singles, one next to the table on the port side with a pilot berth above (pilot berth suitable for children and small adults, also great for the kids to sit on while watching T.V.). I have owned this boat for three years, and one of the main reasons I bought it, is in my opinion it is one of the most solidly built boats that hunter has produced. The upgrades I have done are, Harken roller furling (drum still below deck), replaced and added all running rigging (with the good stuff), better headsails, spinnaker and gear, Laptop plotter with GPS, new microwave, brass cabin lamps, and upgraded a bunch of little stuff with better quality hardware. I was lucky, the boat ony had one owner who used it only two months a year. Good solid boat. Larry S.

88 Legend 37

Hi Jeff: I purchased an 88 Legend 37 last year after a cabin fire. Spent last winter re-doing the inside where there was fire/smoke damage. After I was done with the rebuild I ended with a great boat. Like Larry, I upgraded a number of items already on the boat. Better VHF, new wind/speed indicator, better water pump, new smart battery charger, windless, 1500 watt inverter, etc. There are a few things you should be aware of for a boat of that age. My boat has an Edson pedistal. After the first time out of the slip the shift cable snaped and I ended up backing into the boat in the slip behind mine. According to Edson, the cables have a life of 10 to 12 years. I ended up replacing both cables. Something you should inquire about. Not hard to do yourself if you are handy. I needed to replace the Wind/Speed indicator. I have Standard Horizon brand Wind/Speed, Depth Sounder and Knot Meter instruments on the boat. Standard also said the instruments have a life of 10 to 12 years. Just be aware that they could fail in the next few years. All in all I love the boat and would do it again without any second thought.

Hear, Hear...the same!

I've been sailing an '88 L37 for the last 6 years and couldn't be more pleased. Seems there are a few up here in the NE. We've had it all over Buzzard's Bay, Narragansett Bay, Vineyard, Nantucket, Rhode Island, Fishers and Long Island Sounds. She's sturdy and not difficult to handle. You will love it. Feel free to contact me thru the Owner's directory for more info. Good Luck. Paul Akers s/v AKERS AWAY
