Looking for some advice and a log book

We are considering moving our boat from tropical ND to Punta Gorda, Fl. Our tentative plan is to transport her by truck to Lake City, MN. Ship the mast south (unsure where right now though). Then transit via the Mississippi River to the Gulf. I am sure that there must be some intrepid members of this forum that have done this before so I am asking for any advice you can give us and possibly a log book. Specifically items like where south to ship the mast (or not), how long did it take, what to avoid and whether this is a stupid idea.

Any information would be helpful. Please note that this is not exactly the same route as the great loop. The first half of it is different. :dance:

I use the attached page I created for a daily log. This is a text version of what is layed out in an Excel spreadsheet page (which can't be reproduced here). There are outlined cells in which to put the appropriate info per the descriptions.

Might be easier than a book to use. Hope it helps...

Check out this group for specific river information. Most get off the Mississippi in the lower states.

The sailboats who go south on the Mississippi usually leave their mast aboard. They create two mast crutches, bow and stern, to hold it in place. Even if you carry it above your head, you will still be shorter than the commercial traffic.

gettinthere did this last Fall. Shipped his mast from Chicago and went down the Mississippi. Check back in his blog to last Sept./ Oct. ?

We just use a sheet (Word document) we modified from somewhere for our log. We usually just need space to write in as we do not keep exact information on conditions (they change a lot). We are currently sailing our 410 up the East Coast and then back for the summer but welcome to Punta Gorda!
