I have a Legend 35 and have decided to sell her and buy a Legend 40.5. I've read the reviews but they are all from the nineties. How about some updated reviews and insight into the 40's teenage years. What's working and what's not? Anything to look out for in our search? I'd appreciate feedback from this forums members greatly.

Mine is a 93/94. bottom line - I'd buy it again today if I was looking.
The only albeit minor complaints I have as the boat ages are that one port leaked (was surprisingly easy to fix), the mast step leaked (a common problem and also an easy fix), some ports have crazing common to that age acrylic and the holding tank (aluminum) required replacement ( a very common problem).
All-in-all, I couldn't be more satisfied how it has aged, noticeably absent are the lack of stress cracks, gelcoat looks as new and the important stuff (Yanmar engine, bulkhead tabbing, rigging and hull/keel integrity) are excellent. It's still fast and points like a racing boat.

I have a '97 model, the last year that the model was made. We looked at a lot of boats after we decided to get a larger boat. When I saw the H40.5, that was it. I bought our boat 5 years ago and would do it again.

Bill, you do realize that you posted this on the Cherubini site? Not too much of an issue probably since most of us start with "New Posts".

I have been writing here since 1998 that the Legend series are the prettiest boats Hunter, or maybe anybody, ever produced. The 37.5 and 40.5 were always on my list before I invested so much time and money in my Cherubini. I know that all of my friends with Legends love their boats.

We had a Legend 35 and moved up to a 1993 40.5 in 2000. Great boat and has more room inside than most 2009 40 footers. We found it easier to handle than the 35, as the extra weight and more powerful engine makes docking better. I have singlehanded it often. It sails similar to the 35, only faster and of course less bouncy due to the extra weight. It does have a large main, which can take a while to hoist from the cockpit. My wife usually tails the main halyard, while I assist in the hoisting at the mast until it's about 90% up.But if it's rough, we do it all from the cockpit. About the same as the 35.

If we could afford a new 40 footer, it would be hard to find a boat that is nicer than this one.
