I have an Oday 40, 1987, and she was in an accident recently which caused some damage to the toe and rub rail. As we search for stock to replace the damaged section we have learned it is no longer manufactured. Has anyone had this problem before, and if so, how did you end up repairing your boat?
Thanks in advance,
Moon Bounce

Great site for O Day parts, but no rub rail. This will be the toughest part of the repair, finding parts.

I agree. DRMarine is your best option. I am still trying to find a 1 ft section to fit a Pearson 39-2. DRMarine is looking to see if they have a section "lying around". The only other option is to replace your entire rubrail with something similar to the original.

Hey Capt Gary I may be able to help you out. What type rub rail does your Pearson have? I have a 1986 P36-2 and think I may have a foot left. I replaced the entire rail when I bought the boat.... L shaped hard plastic. Bought from Rudy

Hey, thanks for the thought! I'm actually looking for two things. One is an aluminum section of rubrail (not really sure how to describe it - sort of a solid D shape with the bottom curve of the D extending past the vertical); and the second is the U shaped white plastic trim underneath the rubrail. Don't know if the 36 has the same setup. I think there are a lot of other similarities in the boats, so I will watch for other posts from you. I just bought the boat at the end of this season, so I am doing a lot of projects/upgrades this winter.

Got a huge help from this site last week when I was directed to Hatchmasters.com for replacement Lexan. My portholes were all extremely crazed. They cut original 1987 spec Lewmar portholes (with orings included). I am replacing lexan in 10 opening portholes for $350 including tax. That convinced me of the value of a forum like this!

Great News! So we were fortunate enough to find a manufacturer who claims they can reproduce the metals for us. If all goes well we will have new rub rail and toe rail on or about April 15, 2013. We will most likely have surplus. Once we receive it and I verify it is a match I'll advise on how one can get it.
Cheers,

I am thinking about fabricating an oak or teak rub rail to replace aluminum. I will cut the aluminum rub rail so that each side matches, and try to match the wood to the aluminum
what do you think?
