Hi everyone - does anyone have any favourite anchorages in the North Channel, Ontario? We are looking for ideas for our next cruise 3rd week of July. We've been to the Benjamins, and absolutely love Covered Portage cove north of Killarney. Does anyone have any other recommendations? (By the way we have a 5 ft draft) Thanks!

Do you have the Ports Cruising Guide yet? if not go get one right away and start reading. There is tons of info in there on the anchorages in the North Channel and also where to restock, fuel and pump out.

This was our stop last year and will be again this year in Aug. Baie Fine, just north of Killarney and Covered Portage. The Ports book shows an anchorage in Mary Anne Cove, but can be crowded which is good if you want to socialize. Most boats drop an anchor and back into shore and tie-off to shore. If you watch the wind direction you can pull into the many small coves all along Baie Fine for some amazing scenery.

Thanks so much, I do have the Ports guide and agree it's a terrific resource. We'd been thinking of Baie Finn. Looks like there is nice cruising to get there too. Mary ann cove in the Ports book says depth of 5 ft have you found that there is a route with a bit more depth? Did you happen to go up to the pool - we were planning on going in by dingy as I've heard the weeds are bad. Have you ever anchored at Clapperton Harbour? I've heard some say it's great and others say it's creepy due to the abandoned resort on the island. Love your pic - I just can't wait to get out there. Perhaps we'll see you on the water. Our boat is Knotty Dreams, Hunter38.:)

North Channel anchorages

We just returned from a week there. Snug Harbour on the Lansdowne channel is well protected, and there is an interesting walk through the woods to Frazer Bay. Mill lake was also nice - lots of anchorages and not many boats - also a beautifully scenic motor in along Collins inlet.

Lots of big boats in May Ann Cove so no worry about the depths and Baie Fine certainly has lots of depth so don't worry about your 38. I was looking forward to getting back to the Pool after having been there 25 yrs. ago canoeing in Killarney Prov. Park. We sat in the Pool for over half an hour in the boat debating the amount of weeds just below the surface would be worth the nastolgia or not..... luckily we chose not and the above pic was where we anchored for three nights and certainly glad we did. Clear water that we could swim and much quieter than a very busy Pool.

We took a dinghy tour one evening and the long narrow channel leading to the Pool was also full of boats.... looked almost surreal. Don't worry about depth for you boat, use your chartplotter and you'll be fine. Its worth the look see even if you don't anchor there.
