I am considering installing a wind generator with the intent that it will provide the bulk of my refrigeration power needs. I need about 50AH per day. I have a genset that I run for heating water and recharging, but the recharging requires relatively long genset run times, even with my 70A charger. I am in Narragansett Bay on a mooring and the winds are typically 10-15 kt from 10am to 5pm every day. I would like to hear from owners of any brand. The information I am interested in is: 1. What model generator do you have? 2. What can I expect for current and voltage output for a range of wind speeds? 3. Performance and reliability- would you recommend your model? 4. Recomendations for mounting? 5. How much noise? 6. Any special regulators needed? TIA, Rich

AIR 403

I have used an AIR 403 wind turbine for 6 years and am impressed with it's durability and output. Very rugged construction. It has a built in regulator that controls output so it won't overcharge your batteries. 15 MPH winds will produce about 125 watts of power, 10 amps@12v. It can get a little noisy in 30MPH +. They also manufacture a marine version.

Across the pacific

I took a wind 303 across the Pacific and it was the only piece of gear on the whole boat that was a failure. It averaged 2 amps an hour in the trade winds, in frustration sent it back to the manufactures when in Pago Pago who said it had a cracked housing from the manufacturing. Recieved it back with no improvment. Next trip took solar pannels...... I love solar pannnels.
