Please offer any advice on refrigerating the ice box on my 1983 Hunter 34. I will be attending this weeks Atlantic City N.J. boat show and would like to know what would best suit my boat. At the best price of course. Thank you for any help you may offer. Sincerely, Victor

H34 refrigeration

I have a Nova Kool system (air-cooled)in my 1985 H34, and I'm pleased with it. I use it as a reefer only, not a freezer. The compressor is mounted in the stbd cockpit locker on a small shelf. It pulls about 3-5 amps when it's running, and it runs a lot (I live aboard). My boat had an Adler Barbour in a previous life, but it only lasted a couple of years.

Economical Refrigeration

I would highly recommend the Adler Barbor Cold Machine. I have a 1981 Hunter 30 which I have owned since new. I installed a Cold Machine in 1981 which lasted 10 years, the first two running 24 hrs a day since I lived on the boat. I installed the second Cold Machine myself and it has run 24 hrs a day, virtually every day since then. That was eight years ago. I certainly have no complaints. It makes ice, keeps meat frozen solid, and if left on too high a setting will freeze beer rock solid. I improved the new installation by addition a tiny 12 volt computer fan to circulate the air throughout the box. The fan draws .3 amps; the cold machine draws about 3.97 amps when running and it will run about 30 to 40% of the time depending on the outside temp. Good luck Steve Fredrick
