Norm, Which Engine Do You Have?

On the list server you mentioned its a Westerbeke, but here you say its a Vire. Just wondering which it is? Don

Vire 7/Westerbeke

Actually, this engine was imported from Denmark by Westerbeke. However, if you call them for advice/assistance they'll just blow you off. They haven't provided support for the Vire 7 for many years. Support is now provided by Hansen Marine Engineering, Inc. 32 Tioga Way Marblehead, MA 01945 (781) 631-3282 Hansen's is the sole importer/distributor in North America. Needless to say, you are at their mercy. And when it comes to aftermarket parts, there are fewer for the Vire 7 than there are chickens with lips. My previous boat had the Virus 7 in it. Sturdy litle unit. Hope this clears things up. Cheers, Bob

That Clears It Up

Thanks. I remember seeing that the Vire was built in Finland, and wondered what the connection with Westerbeke was. I have heard that they are very simple, reliable gas engines that were originally built for the Finnish fishing boats. A few have ended up in older O'Days, and was wondering if this was an option to diesel engines provided by O'Day, or whether they were owner added after purchase? Don
