Oday 23 Oriental
I own a 1973 Oday 23 and live near Oriental NC and was wondering if there was anyone on this forum in my area with the same boat.

I'm in Ohio, are you looking for anything specific?

Oday 23 Oriental
I just wanted to see what other people had done with their boat in person. Oriental is packed with sailboats and sailors so I was hoping there would be another like mine around here.

One thing in particular that I wanted to see was how high the boom sits on the mast. I am considering installing a Mastender so that I can step the mast myself. I would like to install it just above the cabin but do not yet know if it is small enough to go through the cabin top when raising the pop top. If it will not go easily through the hole in the cabin, then, is there room to install it between the raised height of the cabin and the normal resting height of the boom. If not, then I will have to install it above the boom.

If I have to install it that high on the mast, I assume I will have to use some type of push pole to raise the mast. The whole intent is to make it so that I can step the mast myself. (Or at least with the assitance of me 12 year old son)

I have not had the boat in the water yet so there are a lot of unknowns.

The Mastendr would need to be installed at least high enough for the boom to slide up when the cabin top is up. I could be wrong about that though.

Mastendr

Mastender is installed and works great. I also built a push pole system to raise the mast which allows me to do it by myself though it is nice to have one other person around, just in case. I will try to post a video and pictures next time I raise it.

As I have read in other forums, the boat sails fine without the centerboard. The cast iron keel will be a bit of trouble though in our salt water. I installed zincs and they appear to be doing their job as they had some corrosion when I pulled the boat.

Luckily the cabin top is solid but I do have some spongy decks, hopefully that will be a project that can wait until winter.
