I am looking for the names of sailboat models in the 37 -43 foot range that does not have a V berth but has a permanant full double berth (not table dropped down) in the forward half of the hull. We are looking for a liveaboard for a couple and are not interested in 4 or 6 berths. If you think you know of such a vessel model please let me know. If you know where one can get more information about the model even better. Thanks in Advance. sord@rogers.com

Well...

Catalina 42, Hunter 41, Hunter 420, Baba 38, Hans Christian, various, Tayana, some models. That's all that come to mind with pullman berths in the range. I'm sure others will add more. Rick D.

Forward cabin has a double berth with en suite head and shower forward of the saloon. Like most European designs, it was a bit Spartan, though that may have been because the boat had been fit out for bareboat chartering rather than full-time liveaboards. There were two more double berths under the cockpit, but I found them a bit cramped (I'm 6'2" and over 250 lb). The master suite, saloon and galley area were roomy and airy, and the freezer worked very well. Other nice touches included curved companionway steps (secure at any angle of heel and comfy to sit on), roller furling genoa and main and all lines led back to the cockpit. This boat could easily be sailed by a couple and could even be singlehanded as long as there wasn't too much tacking. Peter H23 "Raven"

Nonesuch

I'm not sure of the exact configuration, but I toured a Nonesuch 30 this summer. The mast is forward, so there is not "v" compartment of any kind. The forward cabin was the lounge/settee. There were two great quarter berths. I'm sorry to say I can't recall the center cabin's layout! There are Nonesuch models in your size range - I'd give them a look anyway. David Lady Lillie

no V Berth

Check out the Hunter 430. It is one of the best designs Hunter has come up with. Check out the Boat info location on this website for layout and details. This is one of the most comfprtable and great sailing boats around. More storage, creature comforts, an good manners that many in its class. Worth looking at.

why not center cockpit/aft cabin with walkthrough

There are a whole lot of these (Morgan out islands, Irwins, etc. that have big master cabins under the poop deck. Some have decent walk throughs. Why does the cabin need to be in the front half of the boat? Most of these in this size range are going to be v-berths. To get something else look at the 50 foot Benetaus.

Caliber 38 or 40

I saw a Caliber 38 at the Newport boat show about 8 years ago that had a double berth forward of the salon and right at the front of the cabin was a shower to use the space where your feet would normally reside in a v-berth. Nice arrangement but not seaworthy. No way you could sleep in this set up on a voyage, but for coastal cruising and sitting on a mooring or at anchor it would be fine. dave
