I have a dock in tidal water, very shallow at low tide. I am looking for a boat with very shallow draft that has a cabin, can day sail for 4-6 people and I can put on my boat lift when I leave after the weekend. I have heard about the MacGregor and that would fit the bill but I have heard mixed comments regarding their quality. How about a CAt?? Any suggestions would be appreciated

I do not think it will fit your boat lift. The problem with the Mac is that it is based on a compromise between a power boat and a sailboat. Because of the shape of the hull it does not do either very well but can be a lot of fun if used to cruise in calm protected waters of a bay or river. A good alternative would be a Hunter 240. This is a sailing boat, water ballasted with much better sailing characteristics than a Mac but would allow to be put on a lift.

If you don't mind an older boat, the 1987-1995 MacGregor 26 classic (true sail,i.e.: low horsepower, referred to on this site as the 26C, 26D and 26S) would be an excellent choice. Only 1600# when the ballast is drained. 1'-3" draft with board up. Enclosed head. Many in excellent condition under $10k. the new hunter 25 can do all that
If you are looking for a new boat, the new hunter 25 would do everything you mentioned. I am about to put a lift in my slip for mine.
