I am ready to buy an H260. Right now, all the 260s I'm finding advertised are in the mid west, Florida, Texas, or California. If you know anyone closer to BC, WA, or OR who's thinking of selling, please let me know!

One for sale in Utah Hunter 260 boats for sale - Boat Trader. Benjamin, UT to Vancouver, BC, which is a little over 1000 miles and 15 hour drive so closer than mid west, Florida, Texas, or California. If that is the sailboat I wanted I would not hesitate to travel there, inspect, make an offer, survey, purchase (if it checked all the boxes) and tow it back home myself OR have a transporter deliver it to me. Live your dream!!

A few years back I bought a powerboat south of Los Angeles and drove it up to San Francisco. I know lots of sailboat and powerboat owners who have bought them on the east cost and PNW and shipped or sailed them to San Francisco, California.

Thanks, @sail sfbay . I actually already contacted that guy and told him I was interested in going to see the boat when the border opens, which should be in 3-4 weeks, if it's still available. It looks like a nice example, although I'm confused by the model year. I thought that H260 production didn't start until MY 1997.

Based on the photos the Utah boat is a hunter 26. Similar in most aspects but does not have the sugar scoop stern, teak trim fiddles at galley and if I remember correctly the head door is white laminate vs the teak in the 260. That particular example looks to have the table sides cut down and appears to be missing the aft cushions. Also appears that the galley cupboard is not present in that example. Not sure if it was unique to the 260. The Utah example does appear to have several other nice upgrades, In particular I’m not sure the factory 26 had a wheel option which that particular boat Appears to have.

The 26 and the 260 fairly similar but there are some notable differences.

Do the small differences matter, it is a lovely sailboat?
It seems to be mainly a matter of preferences. So far as I can tell, the hulls are the same and the rigging is essentially the same, so they sail more or less identically. According to some sources, the H260 rudder was made lighter, in response to customer complaints about the H26 rudder, but, as a consequence, the H260 rudder is not as strong. That seems to be the only difference that's not a matter of preferences.

For me, when I look at the differences side by side, my preference almost always comes down on the H260 side, so that's what I'm looking for.

The Hunter 260 production started on August 1, 1997 for model year 1998. There were still a few of the 26 hulls still in the manufacturing or production line. If you can provide a hull number, we can advise if either 26 or 260. After HUN IN THE HULL NUMBER IS THE MODEL NUMBER.

AS for the factory supplied rudders based on the manufacturer, they are the same.

The major differences of the 260 from 26 include optional wheel steering, upgrade forward hatch, marine head vs ports poti, fixed fresh water tank, improved entry into cockpit from water , etc.

The 270 was the fixed keel version vs water ballast with a 10 Hp inboard diesel being offered as an option. Both the 260 & 270 were introduced by me

Thanks for that, @Crazy Dave Condon . The confusion regarding the boat @sail sfbay mentioned is in the title. It's listed as a "1995 Hunter 260" which, so far as I can tell, doesn't exist. However, @sail sfbay is right that, from the photo, it looks like a 26. Maybe it's just a typo.

I sold nearly a quarter of the production for both lines. If 1995, it is a 26. Hull number please if the owner will give it to you

Cannot remember bull fiddle sticks. There were over a thousand of each model made but exactly how many I cannot remember. Sorry

@MaxinCalgary
You have no idea what it took for hunter to agree with wheel steering optional for the 260 which is one reason for the success of the hunter 260. I do not know how many wheel steering I put on the 26 but during the Annapolis show in 1996 , two Edson representatives were taking panels off on my 26 taking apart my wheel steering. I threw them off but Edson did apologize for that stunt. They asked for my input later on the 260

Thanks for the tip! I think I remember seeing your boat listed, last year. Too bad I missed it, but I wasn't ready to buy yet.
