I am going to St. Thomas in February with a weekend charter with Fanfare Charters. I am getting a Hunter 34. Anyone use them before? I went with Fanfare because I am not going for a full week and they are the only ones who have daily charters that I know of. Also, any suggestions at places to stop and things to do is welcome. Thanks, Les Murray S/V Ceilidh 1986 C-36 #560

St. Thomas USVI

We just got back from BVI. Don't know about Fanfare Charters but can tell you if you get over to the BVI side, Norman Bight on Norman Island is a great stop over. Willy T's floating bar and restaurant is a pretty 'wild' place at night, lots of fun. Just east is the Wreck of the RHONE, great dive or snorkel spot and then the Baths at Virgin Gorda, a must! You will have to clear Customs at Sopers Hole, first port you come to on BVI about a 2-3 hour sail from St. Thomas. White Beach on Jost Van Dyke Island is another fantastic spot to stop for the day and then overnight at Cane Garden Bay on Tortola. We hit the Christmas winds (20-30 k at times) but it's always at 090 so u just reef some and away you go. The locals told us the winds may stay until Feb or may be gone by Jan. It was alittle more wind than I expected but once you get out in and trim up the boat, it's not so bad. At least it's a WARM wind! Your going to have a great time where ever you end up! If you get to White Beach, have a Rum Punch and tell Gerturde "Hello" from me. Cheers! Ron

Weekend Charter Advise

First you need to decide if you want to sail or see the sites. If I were in the USVI I'd got to Jost Van Dyke and hit Foxy's on Friday night, You can clear customs right up the beach. The food and entertainment is fun there. Good luck with your H34 Barry s/v "PER DIEM too"

St.John

Don't miss St.John. Lots of great, uncrowded places to anchor. The island is 90% natural preserve and very laid back. Have fun and remember to reef early! Bob S/V Lady Di II (H31)
