I have recently acquired a Hunter 25.5 with small outboard located in San Francisco. I would prefer to trailer the boat south to Los Angeles as it would probably take 5 or more days to sail it. I would love to rent a trailer. Does anyone have a suggestion for finding a suitable trailer? Thanks.

What a trip!

That would be a long sail, but what a trip. Spend the night at Carmel, Morro Bay, and a couple of more ice and beer stops. Many sailors would give a lot to be able to make that trip. At least consider it.

Heading South

Yes it would probably be fun, however Conception in a 25 footer would be akin to a cork in washing machine if the seas are up. I just returned from a delivery Burmuda to St. Martin, which was fun (and warm) If you or friends of yours wants the opportunity to bring this south, I would love to lend you the boat. It does look like I will have to sail it down as finding a trailer has been challenging.

If I had a nickel for everytime time I've heard this question. I've seen it posted on almost every news group I've ever seen. And still have not seen an answer. To bad one of those major moving companies doesn't rent one. Good luck. I've been looking for one myself in the mid atlantic reagion.

Trailer rental not available

There is a company that does trailer rental by the name of American but I do not believe they rent for sailboats. There are many problems regarding sailboats. Hulls are different and you have to fit the trailer to the hull. Thus there are too many configurations which someone without proper knowledge could injur himself and/or the boat includeing the trailer. I use to rent my trailers but everyone abused them and thus I stopped it. Finally, the big ticket item is insurance will not cover rental and No One is going to take that chance to rent their trailers. This country has gotten too wild for litigation anymore and as a dealer and I think I can speak for the rest of the industry, we are not willing to risk our livilhood without insurance and of course those not knowing what they are doing. enuf said
