I am the new owner of a 1980 Oday 28 with a keel mounted mast. Im looking for a plate I can mount on or near where the mast passes thru the hull to attach blocks to run halyards back to the cockpit. All I find are solid plates for deck mounted masts. Anyone have any suggestions on where I can get such an animal?

Some builders put an aluminum base plate with pins that stuck out around the mast at the partners where you could attach block outside the mast boot.

If you don't have one of those, then you could look around and try to find one for your mast extrusion. It would require pulling the mast out. Otherwise, you'd have to install individual blocks on the deck around the mast. You might want to check out the Garhauer and Harken websites for equipment that will work for you.

Faced with the exact situation for my keel stepped 32 and I looked high and low for something......I still want to put some pad eyes on the deck but putting holes there is stopping me, so for now I have some pad eyes on the mast that I put there 6 years ago

If I might offer a suggestion. When you drill into your deck drill the hole twice the size of the screw and fill with thickened epoxy. I used West Systems 404 high density filler. Once cured drill your pilot hole for the screw in this. This will protect the core permanently from water migration should the caulking fail.

Joe, that is my only method of drilling into any surface on the boat but I just been too lazy to do it!, the pad eyes have been sitting in a box for ever along with the cheek block to route the halyard cause that area where the cheek block wants to live is not solid so I have to be creative and hole saw an opening from below and pack it with real thicken epoxy larger than the area then cover the sin with a backing plate (which reminds me I saw a few yesterday at a flea market and passed up)
