So, here I am "land-locked" in Pittsburgh. I really like the trailerability of the 260 and can see myself making forays up to Erie (2 hrs ), Annapolis(4 hrs) or northern VA (where the in-laws live). But, I've obviously got no dealer here in Pittburgh. Hunter sent me the name of a place in Huron, OH (Harbor North) which is 3 hour away. For me, customer service is FIRST and price is next - especially since I've never owned anything larger than a Hobie. I'd appreciate either feedback on Harbor North or recommendations on another dealer near any of the above. Feel free to contact me direct at timothyh_ms@msn.com if you prefer. Thanks in advance!

What's a couple of hours

What's a couple of hours drive to a trailor-sailor? The key to choosing a dealer may be where you plan to sail it. You want to be able to get the boat back to the dealer if you need something fixed. However, some dealers have better customer service reputations than others. I think the Hunter award winners are in VA and MD. Mark

American Marine and Sail

I bought my boat (a 240) from Dave Condon last year and have been largely happy with the boat and his service. Dave is like all of us --he has his quirks. BUT I have found that he will bend over backwards to take care of his customers and their boats. He spends a great deal of time on the road and I know he regularly travels to Va., Md, eastern NC and SC to service boats he has sold. No, I don't work for Dave or get a kickback for saying this. I just think if a guy is doing a good job, we as consumers should give him our business. Dave is located in Zebulon NC (a few miles east of Raleigh) and can be reached at 919-404-1550.

Ditto on American Marine & sail

Tim, I bought my first boat from American Marine & Sail also. The dealer was extrremely helpful and flexible in getting us the boat with the options we wanted. He made the delivery 200 miles away, including walking us through the rigging process and a thorough test sail. He spent the entire day making us comfortable with the boat. 7 years later he still remembers your name. How many dealers remember you after a week? If I hadn't moved halfway a cross the country, I would have bought my second boat from him too. Mike Pajewski H26 "Loon"

Harbor North

The Roberts at Harbor North are great people and really put the customer at ease, answering questions, providing slip space for the year when available and making sure you are comfortable with your boat. Harbor North also has a Hunter Sailing Association with more friendly people and well planned trips throughout the season. There is one day sailing access to Cedar Point,Sandusky,OH. Put In Bay, Kellys Island, Port Clinton and other day trips with good facilities and fun for the whole family. We bought our 23.5, 6 years ago this season and they have been very helpful with service and answering questions. Bob J "Memory" 23.5

"Land locked?"

Tim, Two things, first "Crazy Dave" is a good guy, I was lucky enough to find a nice used H26 on the net in VA. It had a couple of the normal Hunter problems. After total frustration I stopped at the Hunter display at the Annapolis boat show to bitch. Well I was introduced to Dave who took the time to sit down and talk for about 30 minutes on how to possibly fix the problems. Then I find out he had nothing to gain because he is a dealer in the Carolinas. He still treated me like I purchased the boat from him, that must be why he is crazy! Second, my God, whats wrong with Lake Authur or Pymatuning Lake, we moor at Pymatuning for $65 a year, you provide the ball and anchor. We trailer to Erie and the Chesapeake once or twice a season for a change. Drop me a line at henrygl@toolcity.net if you want some info on either lake. Like to see a H260 on Pymatuning Lake. Good luck.

McPherson Sailing Products

I can't say enough nice things about Don McPherson in Ithaca, NY (my aunt drives from Pittsburgh in about 5 hours). It would be an easy trip to pick up your boat and then you have two options to get home: 1) Trailor 2) Launch in Cayuga Lake, sail forty miles north, enter the NY Canal, motor through the locks to Oswego NY (Lake Ontario), sail to Erie, plunge over Niagra Falls ... and voila! Erie, Pennsylvania. Hope this helps.
