I bought the 5 hp 4 stroke, I'm very happy with it, its a gas miser big time! pushes the boat hull speed at half throttle. There are several places one can buy these, online usually has the best price, you can buy one for around 1,000. Tohasu makes both the Nissan and Mercury four strokes under 10 hp, and the prices are usually Tahasu cheepest then Nissan followed by Mercury. When I bought mine a friend bought a Mercury because he wanted to buy American, he paid 650. more than I did, other than the paint there the same motor.

Looking for a good 4 stroke

The Hondas are amazing, but check out what's available and supported locally by reputable dealers. In a marine environment nothing lasts long and you'll need service . . .

I used a Honda 5 HP on my 22 foot sail boat for years with out problem. When I sold the boat, the buyer did not want the motor. It now sits in my garage .... unsure where you are located but I would be winning to sell it at a reasonable price. Email me if interested at JSAIL320@COX.NET John Lady K

I also went with the Nissan 4 stroke, but a 6hp. Overkill, but it weighs exactly the same as the 5, and I got it for the same price. Perfect reliability in 3+ years, never winterized, because we don't take a season off, and very easy to work on when needed (altho other than maintenance, the only thing I've done is change jets for different altitudes when I head down out of the mountains).

Try this site. http://onlineoutboards.com/# I have a nissan 2 strroke 3.5 hp for my cat 22. It weighs only 26 pounds and gets the job done and in 4 years has not given me one bit of trouble. Someday I will upgrade to 4 stroke and it will be a Nissan 'cos I am extremely happy with their little 2 stroke. BTW Tohatsu is the same as Nissan only a few dollars cheaper.

I went with the 4 HP four stroke. Weighs the same as the 5 and 6 but has an internal tank which is a great space saver. It has the necessary connections for an external tank so you have a choice. It's prop is a little lower pitch so provides good power. I think it will easily push your boat at hull speed at about 1/2 throttle. It is a few bucks cheaper also.

I sold my Honda

If you are on a lake you don't need much HP. I had a Honda 8HP and sold it. Am replacing it with a Nissan/Tohatsu 3.5hp 2 stroke. Four strokes are heavy and all that weight is hanging off your transom.

Just bought a new motor

My wife and i just broke down and ordered a new nissan4 hp 4s long shaft from portabote for $925, delivered. I am sure we now will hace a very easy running and dependable motor to help us get in and out of our slip. We also just bought a spinnaker from Bacon and Associates, sail brokers for $350. It is in ecellent condition, so they say. I have dealt with B&A before and found them to be conservative in the description of their sails, and very good to work with. CMON SUMMER
