Bimini or Dodger?
If I were going to cover the companionway I'd be thinking mini-doger as opposed to mini-bimini. Would give you similar shade and double to allow you to keep the hatch open in inclement weather - close it if a knockdown is possible, of course. Best design I've seen yet simply snapped to snaps on the hatch rails. Had three fiberglass battens running latterally. One ran fore-aft. A tube sewn into the forward end of dodge helped keep shape where it attached to the turtle. Justin - O'day Owners' Web
