Looking for a bilge plug for Holder 14

My dear little Holder ... been under a tarp in my backyard since 1992. Wife has knee problems and can't take the bow watch anymore (fend off, dear, fend off!)I guess I will clean her up and sell her(boat, not wife). Buy me a little one-man boat, like a Laser or something. I began sailing a Scorpion (looks a lot like a Sun Fish, but has Oyster Bay sails) about 40 years ago on White Rock Lake in Dallas. Well ... I digress. What I need today is a bilge plug. This is a threaded plug that screws into the transom of the Holder 14, providing access to the bilge. Don't know where that thing got off to, but a lot can happen in 15 years, under a tarp ... in the backyard. We've got squirrels here, you know. If anyone can give me a lead on where I can get a threaded bilge plug for a Holder 14, I would tip my hat, dip my ensign, raise my cocktail flag, and toast all ye good seafaring rag merchants for your goodwill and generosity! Plugs

Check with a HobieCat dealer, they were the ones to sell the Hobie-Holder. Sailboat suppliers should have something that works - West Marine, Annapolis Performance Sailing, Layline, Murrays. Check the parts list through the support group - h t t p : / / home . comcast . net / ~vagabondsailing [remove the blank spaces for this link to work]

Holder 14 Threaded Bilge Plug

Thanks for your reply. I have been in touch with Hobie by e-mail. They have given me a part number that I could supply to a dealer who may allegedly be able to order the threaded bilge plug. This remains to be seen. If they can't come up with an original, there is always a work-around. J2

Plugging the gap

I wouldn't agonize over the Hobie "maybe's", bilge plugs are a common boating item. Look very closely at the collar the plug screws into. See any part numbers or brand markings, "H" for Harken, "R" or "RF" for Ronstan perhaps? Replacement plugs average less than $10. Make that $20 if you buy a Hobie repackaged one. Look through APS or Defender web pages, they have a whole slew of them. Did you post your question with the support group? They usually will have a solution nailed in a day or two.

Bilge Plug

I just ordered a replacement plug today from Midwest Sailing for my Holder 14.

I was something like $2.50 plus shipping. The dealers get them from the Hobie factory as it is the same type of plug used on the cats.

Thanks for the lead

Hobie did respond with a part number. I have also found a local marine parts dealer who carries a variety of brass, course-threaded bilge plugs. I do appreciate your response and the link to Midwest. If I can't match the bilge port with a local plug, I will do as you suggest and order one from Midwest.

Got the little Holder out from under the tarp and cleaned her up last weekend. Looks great! I kept the sails stored in a workshop loft in an old Army footlocker that weighs like a Brinks safe, and they look like I bought them yesterday. It's going to break my heart to sell her, but I need something small, pole mast, easy to toss in the water and take a quick sail by myself. I prefer Marconi rig ("cat rig"). I was thinking a Laser, but I am not sure.

Thanks again for all the suggestions. Nice to see that sailors still stick together.

Have you noticed there's a Hobie-Holder 12, a Laser-like design?

Holder 12

I have seen pics of the Holder 12. Looks like a nice little boat, but I don't think Hobie (or anyone else) still makes it. Also, if it is truly a 12 (have not seen the specs), that would be kind of short at the waterline. But thanks for the suggestion.
