Just about ready to buy, but was hoping to get some feedback from current owners. Your thoughts on how it handles under sail and power? Would you be comfortable take it out into the ocean and day trips down coastline or is this strickly a inland water boat? Is the Honda 50 the best choice or would you recommend a different setup? Any options you consider a waste that your better off outfitting later? Thanks

Sail/Power

Hi dobcpa...... If you want to SAIL at 5-6 knots....get a used Mac 26S. Way better SAILBOAT. Displacement hull design. If you want to MOTOR longer distances at 10-15 knots get a 26X. More freeboard and heels hard in ANY gust. You will be hanging on to the sheet all day, even with reefed main and genoa. A planning hull (motorboat) design. Honda 50 is a great reliable outboard. Sail before you BUY! happy reefing........dan

26X Purchase, good idea or bad??

Dobcpa, We have a 26x that is sailed off the Atlantic coast just about every weekend. The boat handles very well as a cruiser and, as long as the ballast is full, is a very safe "ocean coastal capable" vessel. Under either sale or power, we have not been disappointed by the 26x's handling. Our outboard choice was a Yamaha 50 4 cycle. We like the 4 cycle do to the increased fuel efficiency over a 2 cycle outboard. Just be careful with the prop size and pitch. Choice options to get immediatly are: Genoa, furler, boom vang and ladder. If you plan on keeping it in the water during the season, I would highly recommend applying epoxy to the bottom as well as bottom paint.
