Cherubini 27 Big Pine Key
I found this ad on Craigslist for a Sailboat and me and my husband are looking to move from the mountains down onto the coast and work our way through the gulf and have a little fun on a sailboat and live off of a boat.

I found this awesome and super cheap sailboat from CL and it's a Hunter 27 Cherubini and it has no Mast.

I am looking for information on masts and what it would cost to get another. I've got a set of sails already and the rigging is still there. I am looking to see how much a general bolt on mast for this boat would be.

I am guessing that a salvage yard is going to get between $500-$1500 plus rigging, a new one with rigging is going to be about $5000-6000 with rigging.

Find a complete boat that you can sail now. You will be thousands ahead.

That is why the boat is so cheap. Your only other option would be to find the same boat with a hole in the hull (also cheap) and make one "new" boat out of the two.

There are a lot of good used boats for sale. Find one of them today and go sailing tomorrow.

I've been looking around and I've only got about $2500, so i'm not looking for something in super great shape or anything. More like a fixer upper that I can take and make it my own and put some work into it.

I've found another boat that soemone is trying to simply just get rid of and I've e-mailed him asking about the mast, I'm hoping it would work. If it won't it's not a huge deal I'll just find something else.

I know a guy who got a boat with no mast and he took the ballast out and replaced it with a 150gallon fuel tank and put a little out board motor on it and putted around. That would be an option. Just not as fun as learning to sail. (my husband has sailing experience)

Not to worry Benny. With no ballast you just turtle it and the fire is out!

While Steve's numbers might be a bit high I think he is right about walking away. There are so many project boats that come with all the major parts. I like fixing things but I hate searching and waiting for the parts to do the job.

And if you've only got $2500 you better look for something ready to sail at that price or a project for $1500. You'll need the thousand to just it off the dock.
