Hi, We are looking at a Hunter 29.5 1994 model as our first family sailboat. The sails are orginal, the main still works but "tired". What is the estimate on replace a new mail sail? Do all 29.5 model use wing keel? We are going to see the boat next week. What are things to watchout & check? Any comments and thoughts on this model will be greatly appreciated!!! Jay

estimate

Try the Chandlery on this site. Your sail with 2 reef points would cost $1700 Also, do yourself a favor and get a survey. It may save you some grief.

Had one for ten

We had a 29.5 for ten years before moving to a larger boat. We loved ours and if I wanted a 30 footer I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one. All the keels were winged. Some had a rudder skeg on the underbody but later models did not. Lots of stuff in the archives (pro and con) about the 29.5. Ours had aft winches and a genoa in lieu of standard 110 jib, and an asymetrical spinaker. With the mainsheet right in front of the helm and the aft winches it was easy to single hand. Sailed pretty well under main alone if it was gusty and short handed. Roomy cockpit. Some say she's tender but I think the 29.5 is very stable. Roomy below with almost all the comforts of home.
