I have finally figured out where the leaking is coming from, but it does not look like an easy fix. I have a leak under the hat top that covers all the lines running from the mast to the cockpit. Has anyone had similar problems, how hard was it to remove this cover and do you have to take the traveler off before it can be removed.

I had the same problem on my '87H34....Water lays inside that cover. I was told not to take it off-----they have a tendency to break--and it is an item verrrry hard to find..... I drilled weep holes in the areas that held the water and on tacking, it drained. Seemed to work fine afterward.. I hope there is a better solution today---then we didn't have the forum for help........

Hi, What needs to be done first is to clean the drains on both sides of the hatch, If you have access to a pressure washer, close the hatch and clean the drains from the cockpit end, and also from the deck end where the lines enter this area. Clean the exit areas for the various lines, and the small drains that are next to the sliding hatch. You will be surprised what comes out of there too. after the cleaning, you may consider a dodger if there is none now, and a cover for the winter if the boat is not in use.

Where was your leak? We have an '87, 35 Legend and there is water coming in the head ceiling around the plate that covers the traveler screws. We have rebedded the screws but occasionally it still leaks. We were going to take off the cover on top next spring and see if anything could be spotted but now maybe we won't. We have a dodger and bimini with full enclosure and when the enclosure piece is in connecting the 2 is when it has leaked. Thanks for the help.

The leak is through the screw holes that hold down the sea hood. I spoke with hunter a few days ago and they said it would not be too much trouble to pull up and rebed the hood.

I think that the problem with these sea hoods is the track system. The track is a 'u' shape. If you notice in the front that the track is basically open, well the back of the track is the same. When you get water in the track it will drain to the forward end of track (especially if the track is dirty or the drain on the aft end is plugged. If you are going to go thru the trouble to remove the sea hood my advice would be to place a piece of rubber or soft plastic in the forward end for each track and caulk it in place. The weep holes on the sides are a good place for the water to go if the aft end is plugged. We have also had a cover made for the companionway. This solved two problems. First there is no longer any dirt and leaves accumulating in the track. There is also very little water that accumulates on the hatch cover. These covers are only about $100 and may prevent the plywood in the ceiling from rotting too. If you look in the archives I think that someone made a post about this a year or so ago. When you remove the sea hood make sure that the caulking is completely removed. I believe that you can purchase some stuff to help disovle the caulking before you start prying the cover up. The person said that they used small wedges to lift the hood as they were lifting it.
