A fellow old salt friend of mine is loosing sleep while trying to come up with the brand name of a 20-footer (approx.) sailboat that either he (or possibly I) encountered in the distant past. He recalls that the vessel was a definitely double-ender -- perhaps of Canadian manufacture -- and again, somewhere close to 20-ft. in length. Side note, brand name possibly began with an "H." Any suggestions as to what it may have been? (How about any double-enders close to 20-ft.?) Thanks in advance.

perhaps a Herreshoff

Was it a classic wooden boat? If so, the all-time most famous designer of double-enders was Herreshoff.

I have the same problem...

Back in '85 I was stationed in Camp LeJeune, NC. I was interested in a boat that fits your description. Double ender, full keel, about 20'. Damn if I can remember the name of the manufacture, but it was Canadian and the boat's name was Cheerio. The brokerage had a "blue book" and they looked it up for pricing. Sorry, I too cannot remember who made it. But it is driving me crazy.

It may have been a Halman 20

They also had a very similar model called a Nordica 20 which was a bit more upscale, with a slightly different forefoot, and portlights. Check out this site to see if that is the boat you are thinking of. They were made in Exeter Ontario by EXE Fibercraft in the 70's. http://www.nordicaboats.com/html/nordica-20.html

hunter 29.5 Nanaimo BC
double ender

There is a 30ft double ender called a Hunter Vogel. It is a Danish design and named after the person it was designed for. There may have been 50 or so built by two different yards in BC Canada. They are a fast sturdy boat easily capable of extended offshore cruising. Production stopped after another Hunter threatened to sue over the use of the name. Hunter Vogel was also resonsible for bringing the 19ft lightning to the Pacific coast.

Halman 20

Thanks all for the quick replies. With a little Googling, I found that the Halman 20 was produced in 1977 in Beamsville OT, Canada. So I'd say that Benny's got it; the Halman 20 fits the visage to a "T."

And credit to Roger too for coming-up with the Halman 20.
