Might not want to hear this but ...
Do you recall the old 60's hit song, "If ya wanna be happy for the rest of yer life, get an ugly girl to be yer wife". Well this sort of advice,(as laughable as it is) holds a bit of irrefutable advice. And that is, no one else will try to take her away from you and thus you can go about enjoying life as it was intended. I have been sailing for only 4 years, but have never lost anything due to theft *except a few batteries*. How do I do it?First of all, I bought a set of locking lug nuts to protect my trailer tires and truck tires. Secondly, I bought an inexpensive truck to pull her with. Inexpensive (2k dollars). An F150 Ford ... 1976 , no air conditioner ... no nothing but power. She has a 353 Detroit diesel engine and gets 20+ miles per gallon irregardless of conditions. However she looks impoverished. Dull paint, a bit of rust here and there, but boy howdy! can she pull! To know her is to love her. That kind of thing. Other than that, you would not look at her twice, which is the way I like it. You would never be able to hot wire her or figure out how to start her engine and forget trying to separate her from her trailer because the trace chains have been welded and takes bolt cutters to separate them.I have parked in various landings and launches throughout South Florida without fear. And as long as a week at a time. Had only my truck batteries stolen, but fixed that by welding an eye and hasp plate to the hood, and adding a stainless American padlock to it (a lock commonly used on over the road tractor trailers to protect trailer loads from theft).Well that's my advice. Have fun.Tom
