Does anyone out there have any experience with the difference between a long shaft and an extra long shaft outboard? Does the 5 inches of shaft length make a noticable difference in the ability to control the boat especially in reverse. I realize that the boat will never back up well but thought that the extra long shaft motor may help. Thanks in advance for any and all opinions.

Super long shaft

Bill, I've sail up in your area before. It gets pretty choppy. What the extra lenghth on the shaft does is keep the prop in the water so you can control the boat in chop. I'd highly reccommend the extra length. Sean

NOT EVEN A QUESTION

HAD C27 FOR 14 YEARS WITH OUTBOARD. DON'T EVEN CONSIDER ANYTHING BUT LONG SHAFT

We had the extra long shaft Honda on our '27. It worked very well. Keep in mind that the rudder had to be notched, and, on the Honda, the trim pin had to be removed and engine "trimmed" all the way down to remove the bonnet. spiderjohn@alltel.net
