I thought I would post this very interesting journey that Eric Forsyth a fellow member of my sailing club is about to make.I saw a presentation of his last trip and found it most interesting
here is an excerpt from the web site:

FIONA'S 2009/2010 TENTATIVE SCHEDULE
This cruise will attempt the Northwest Passage to the west coast via northern Canada. Ice conditions vary every year, several yachts have successfully made the passage in the past few years but conditions for 2009 are unknown. At best our chances of success are 50/50. If we are blocked by ice the hope is to make a decision by about 22 August in the vicinity of Cambridge Bay, Victoria Island, or as close as we have been able to get, and initiate plan B, which is a return to the Atlantic.

It is an impressive sailing resume that Eric Foresyth has.
It is also an impressive and aggressive sail plan he has for this spring/summer/fall through the Northwest Passage - weather permitting.
I was hoping to find that his Westsail 42' had a steel hull but I gather they are largely made of composites. Is this true?
It still sounds like quite the adventure but I would hate to get caught in Arctic ice floes in a plastic boat.
This will be a trip worth keeping an eye on.
Thanks RAD.
