Hi!Vega lovers

It's winter time here in canada and I hate it especially now that I
own a Vega.I try to keep the spirit by reading about sailing and
I've been trying to find books about circumnavigation on Vegas or
voyage like John Neil's "log of the Mahina" that I can't find
anywhere ,used or new I don't care.Maybe one of you Vega lovers have
read that book or any other books on Vega voyages and are willing to
sell them. Please contact me .

Hi

Another Vega book that is great is "Out of the blue" by Anne Miller. A
great read but out of print. They come up on the internet now and then.
Anne is actually renting my father's house at the moment and I am trying
to persuade her to get a reprint. Any idea on costs, amount of books
needed to be printed etc?

Kind Regards

Hi, Steve,
Great idea if the book can be reprinted. I have a copy and think it's great and
(you'll recall) got Anne's permission to reprint a small selection from it in an
anthology of sailing stories I edited for International Marine.

I wish I could remember the name of the press that I once heard about that does
this (one example below), but I'm sure they can be found on the Internet.
Companies now do fairly cost-effective on-demand printing with a new generation
of laser printing equipment. If I recall how it works, the author sends in the
book and people buy them directly from that company and they print copies as
needed--avoiding the former traditional problem of having to decide how many to
print, paying in advance for print runs, warehousing, and selling copies. Here
are a couple sites that provide starting information if she's interested.

Well, and this is just a suggestion mind you, if you're looking for
reading material, I could suggest a source for two written accounts of
circumnavigations of the globe, one by a couple in the Vega, "Tarka
the Otter", the other a solo once-around in "Lorna Doone" plus
accounts of other voyages, most recently, Ken Preston's voyage north
to Seattle from Puerto Vallarta Mexico in his recently acquired Vega
"Lyra". (All in one sentence too) d;^)

There are also accounts of preparations for voyages on specific Vegas
and a collection of tips and tricks on Vega maintenance accumulated by
several hundred Vega owners over a period of about thirty years. The
above mentioned wealth of accumulated Vega knowledge and sea tales is
available on CD as part of the New Member Package of the American Vega
Association.

New memberships $25, renewals $12 In the US, $15 for International.

By the way:

The next issue of "Fair Winds" the Newsletter of the American Vega
Association, should be out by this weekend. This is the biggest issue
ever and I expect it will run over 70 pages! This huge special issue
will include Ken Prestons article "Bringing Lyra Home" in its
entirety including pictures plus Tony Skidmore's "Navigation on Board
Lorna Doone" with detailed notes and log entries from his
circumnavigation and coverage of this Summer's VEGAtarian Rendezvous
2003 at Port Browning BC. In the "Signals From the Fleet" section,
tips on re-finishing the hull and topsides and a bimini and dinghy-tow
set up and much more.

I appreciate everyones patience and you wil be rewarded. The upcoming
"Fair Winds" has three times as many pages as the biggest issue so far!

PS: I have been very busy friends and have had a few ups and downs
(My boat was broken into last week and my laptop computer and some
personal items stolen) but the net effect is definitely UP! I think
I'm going to have a nice surprise for everyone soon.
