Locking the Rudder

Hi All! I'm curious to hear how people are locking their rudder in a fixed position when at the dock. I used to run a line from the jib cleats around the tiller but I found that it was ruining the tiller canvas. I tried a similiar approach at the base of the tiller using the aft dock cleats but that still left a bit of movement. So I was thinking about mounting backets, one to the base of the tiller and one to the aft cockpit wall, then using a pin. Has anyone found a better way? TIA Garrett

Ruder lock

Garrett, I use a 5/16" line tied to one side of my stern pulpit, wrapped around the tiller a few times near the hiking stick, and then tied to the other side of the pulpit. It holds the rudder at the dock, and acts as a temporary tiller tamer for short, no-hands sailing. It can be slacked and gotten out of the way by pushing it back to the stern. David King "Molly"
