Lock companionway from the inside?

I wouldn't call that unreasonable paranoia. That's jes' regular-folk-type paranoia. ;)

We use an old fashioned hook and eye. It works great, easy to open from the inside, and it's cheap.

Oi! Forgot to take some pics Saturday. . .spent Sunday gardening for Mom. . .today after work, finished up that bit of gardening. . .so no pictures :doh:

But, I do like that prop-stick idea. I did some measuring and it might be the easiest to implement. I was thinking I would need to enlarge the locking hasp backing block so I can notch it to accept one end of the stick at the hatch. The other end will have the barrel bolt that will lock it into the coach roof directly. The fiberglass is 1/4" thick there. . .

Barring that, I have a SW 686. . .though I prefer not to use it and would like to keep anyone who shouldn't be there on the outside ;)

As for those who can't believe I would want to lock myself in. . .I've found shoe prints before in the cockpit that weren't mine and once found the pad lock flipped up vertically. I even caught a guy and his teenage son pulling the boat closer to the finger pier so they could check it out closer. I talked to the guy and he said his father had a R29 years ago and he was just looking :confused:

Anyways, with the number of drunks that leave the marina bar and wander the piers. . .I wouldn't want anyone stumbling into my cabin and startling me and getting hurt. I'm more worried about that than some Oceanview Crackhead picking my dilapidated boat out of thousands to pillage.

That being said, thanks for the ideas and I will post pics of the finished product once done!

I too would be worried of getting locked in.
Then again, being docked in the right spot helps too.

I have two forms of protection...one is an alligator and the other is a bit louder and quicker.

Wedgit available on Amazon. Its the 18"-25" model glass sliding door lock, not the toys of the same name.

From the photo you can see I installed a cabinet bumper in the middle of the overhead. I drilled a 5/8" hole in the back of the mount for the Wedgit. The retaining clip is screwed to the wood on the back side of the slider. It slips over the bumper and snaps into place. Easy to pull free in an emergency. The only change I may make is to use a proper SS clevis pin instead of the plastic one that comes with the lock. A hard kick could shear that off.

Oh, and just because I am paranoid doesn't mean someone isn't out to get me.:eek:
