I finally broke down and purchased the X-5 Smartpilot Wheel. It came yesterday and I have been reading the installation and operating guides in preparation for installing it this weekend. The one meter distance requirement from metal objects (engine mainly) and other electrical/magnetic interference items begs this question in my mind... where the heck are the corepack and fluxgate typically installed (successfully) on H33.5's like my 1988 model? Any help appreciated!!

Fluxgate Install

I put my fluxgate under the galley sink. The hardest part is installing the rudder indicator. Let me know if you have any problems and I will send you a pic on how I installed mine.

Thanks for the reply. Since I posted, I’ve done a little more research and decided my #1 choice location for the fluxgate is under the sink just as you suggested. I would like to install the corepack in the aft berth on the bulkhead just behind the engine, but I am concerned that may be too close to the engine and subject to lots of vibration. I’m still working on that decision.

BTW, do you have a windlass and/or a bow roller installed on Codger? I’m just recovering from shoulder surgery and I think a roller/windlass will have to be my next project so I can continue to cruise and anchor out.

On the X-5 the rudder monitor is optional. The corepack has connections for one, but I hope it will perform OK without it. If it turns out that I need to install one, I'll be sure to contact you. Thanks again.
