Does anyone know of of site that would give the current location of the Gulf Stream off the coasts of SC and NC? All I can find are archived photos/sites.
to get realtime info, ya now gotta pay. the lady at noaa that used to do this went into the dot.com business for herself. she's at http://www.erols.com/gulfstrm
You can get a current Gulf Stream Analysis courtesy of the US Navy Meteorological/Oceanographic Center in Norfolk, VA. The web site is http://www.nlmoc.navy.mil/home1.shtml.As a sailor and retired Navy weatherman/oceanographer, I've found this site useful for offshore information.
Rich, Your url returns the message:"Not FoundThe requested object does not exist on this server. The link you followed is either outdated, inaccurate, or the server has been instructed not to let you have it."Please recheck your info.
The URL for the Navy site containing Gulf Stream location information is as Rich stated - http://www.nlmoc.navy.mil/ minus the home1.shtml. This is a database driven site so any attempt to access the given page would be denied since the page was only created when Rich made the request. You have to browse down through the products for the Atlantic Operational Area to find the information on current Gulf Stream location and speeds.
I tracked down a couple of the previous responses and decided that the text version was "cleaner". The full link is "http://www.nlmoc.navy.mil/newpage/oceans/working/gulf02.gif" which gives you the graphic with grids that you can use for distances offshore.Ron Parkess/v Contemplation H320
