Location of Fluxgate compass

The Raymarine autopilot is failing to show the correct compass heading. stays constant. am told by Raymarine likely to be a problem with fluxgate compass. Where is it on the Catalilna 309 ? it looks like this.

On the 309 it is in the aft area near the steering column. Visible when the square wood panel in the aft wall of the starboard aft berth is removed. It is visible and mounted rather high just beside the removed wood square. Nearby metal seems not to be magnetic attracted.
