Location of Elec Generator Panel

Getting ready to finally install my electrical generator in the starboard lazarette.

I have a 30 foot cable for the Generator Panel so I can mount it just about anywhere is convenient. Where do you have your panel controller mounted. Do you have it near the generator or near the power panel? If you had to do it again is that where it would put it?

I'm not just sure where I can run the cables but will look tomorrow.

Dan-

My Westerbeke panel fits to the left of the power panel at the nav station. There is a wire run alongside of the stbd rail that is open in the stbd lazarette and runs to the area behind the power panel.

You can follow the existing wires for the route.

Also, Dan, if you have an air conditioning panel, you will need a 4-pole center off break-before-make ship-shore power switch. This will allow you to switch the two AC input circuits to the single generator output so that you can power everything at once from the generator. I have the wiring circuit if you want it.

I located the ship-shore switch just above the generator panel.

When you price the ship-shore switch, I advise having a couple stiff drinks and being seated when you learn the price.

I have my remote control panel at the Nav station and with the remote
panel I can start or shut down the Gen and monitor any problems if something
is not right and this for a FP and is all auto switching from shore to Gen or Inverter and I did almost pass out when the factory install price for the whole setup was given to me and almost cancelled when ordering our new H-36.
But with living in Florida and cruising 3 weeks at a time we love the great
trouble free setup and ease to use our gen.
Make it easy to use and less confusing to operate and not worry about mistakes.

I would be interested in your wiring diagram and the price of the ship shore switch.
Thanks in advance,
Andrew

Nick,
Any information you are willing to provide/share on your set up would be sincerely appreciated.

My system was installed all at the Hunter factory and do have paper work
at the boat and will look it all up this week.
I do know I have these auto switching boxes in the stern of boat and don't
know this type of wiring is way above my head.
Every thing is wired to my main panel with cross over breakers for Gen or shore power and auto switch for my inverter/charger.

Here you go Andrew. It will take a bit of studying, but I think these wiring drawings can be followed. One drawing is of the original wiring from the two shore power connectors to the main AC distribution and to the air conditioning panel. The second shows the Ship-Off-Shore switch and the wiring from the genset to the main and air cond panel. The Shore position switches the incoming connectors to the original loads and the Ship position feeds the generator output to both the main and air cond panels at the same time.

I may have to find the switch information in order to know which contacts close in each position. That information may not be easy to find. Let me know if it you must have it.

My ship-shore switch was about $300 in 1998. I forget who the manufacturer was.
