Location of a Macerator Pump in a Legend 37

Hi Peggy:Just purchased a macerator(sp) pump for my 88 Legend 37. When I opened the cabinet under the sink in the head I was surprised when I saw how little room there was available and quickly got stumped as to where and how to install the macerator pump. I expect that the pump should be installed between the pump-out hose, I believe it is 1", and the holding tank. I think that the installation would require someone more nimble then me to get in to do the installation.Any direction would be appreciated.

Macerator should be installed

between the tank and the thru-hull you plan to dump the tank out of. The easiest way to do that is to cut the pumpout line (which is 1.5" ID btw)...install a y-valve...then come off the other side of the y-valve with another piece of 1.5" hose to the macerator. The discharge fitting on the macerator is only 1"...so you'll need 1" hose, and 1" vented loop installed in it at least 18" above the water line between the the pump and the thru-hull. Alternatively, if the thru-hull is 1.5", you'll need a short piece of 1" hose, 1.5" x 1" adapter, and the rest of the hose and vented loop will be 1.5".If the macerator is a typical impeller driven Jabsco macerator, it should be mounted as close to the tank as possible, so the impeller runs dry for as little time as possible before priming. It should also be at or below the level of the tank.

On the shelf, inside

Mickey, On my L37 I have a manual pump. It is mounted on the forward side of the cabinet, right above the shelf that is in there. The thru-bolts go thru the bulkhead and can be seen under the nav station desk. Hope this helps for location.

Paul that location may not work for a macerator

'Cuz, unlike a manual pump, a macerator has an impeller in it that can't run dry for more than a few seconds without being "fried." I don't know how far away your pump is from the tank, but macerators can't always go in the same place that a good manual--or electric--diaphragm pump can go.
