Has anyone successfully solved the fuel guage problem on the early '80's H-30? Mine is stuck under the deck 8" back of the hatch opening. Endless source of frustration the two times a year I need to know how much fuel is left in the tank. Looking for easy answers... Thanks in advance.

PRONE FOR VIEW

On my 1982 Hunter, 27', it was located on the base of the qtr berth, and I had to strike a prone position, on my belly to read the gage, when I installed partition boards in front of and on the side of my nav station, I moved my DC & AC panels, and fuel gage to the side partition board, the biggest problem was making a harness from the original location to the nav station, now every thing is eve level.

better than ours

I know what you mean. Our 1988 33.5 has no guage at all. We have to hang from our ankles into the "hell hole" and thump on the tank. Good luck

problem reading fuel gauge

On my Hunter30 1977 the fuel indicator is a mechanical float type which screws into the top of the tank. The face of the indicator is easily visible from the front of the engine when you check the oil level. If it is too dark I use a flashlight.

This May Help

Some years ago I came across a portable instrument which consisted of a pressure gauge with a long pipe attached and a squeeze bulb like an outboard fuel primer. It was designed to give remote indication of the fuel level in a central heating oil tank. In use the tube was permanently mounted through the top of the tank and reached to the bottom. The squeeze bulb was operated until the gauge read the highest pressure. This occurs when air is bubbling out of the dip tube in the tank and so the pressure is that at the bottom of the tank - this represents the depth of fuel. The gauge was calibrated in inches of fuel and could easily be recalibrated in gallons or litres for a particular tank. I saw it in a junk shop so have no idea who made it but it would not be too difficult to rig one up using a low air pressure meter. Best of luck. Don Alexander

I've Got it Made!

I'm clearly the lucky one. On my '81 H30, the fuel gauge is mounted on the electric service panel at the nav. station. Don't know if this was the original installation, or something a prior owner did, but either way, it works for me. If there is also a gauge on/near the fuel tank, I've not found it--and fortunately haven't had reason to go looking.
