Does anyone know if there are marinas in California that allow live-aboards? If so where and what special restrictions might they have?Eric Linklater"Worlds Away"
There is an extra fee for live aboards, and I done know what it is. The standard fee for 45' slips is $12 a foot. Includes concrete docks, dock box, pool, spa, gym, deli, electronic recording gates to slips and parking, security from 6p to 6a,fresh water and cable tv. You pay for your own power. There is a meter at each slip that is read on the first of the month..
the golden state tends to be a fairly amorphous reality. getting a slip in some places on the central coast, for example, requires a long wait. I put myself on the waiting list for a slip in Monterey in 1984, at which point I was told the wait would be 12 years. In 1998, when I took my name off the list, I still had 10 years to go. You can expect the same sort of thing in Santa Cruz and Half Moon Bay. The slip I have now in Redwood City only required a 6-month wait back in 1998, but this marina is no longer accepting applications for liveaboard slips.
Santa Barbara has quite a long wait for slips also, but there is a free anchorage outside of the harbor. We put our boat in Channel Islands Harbor were there seems to be avalable live aboard slips.Andy Hansom
