Little help on 340 salon lite

Lookin for some guidance on the large skylite glazing in the bow side of the salon of a 340. It appears there is a gasket of some sort between the plastic and the hull. I'm wondering if applying 795 over the gasket will seal the joint or if the entire plastic needs to be removed and the gasket replaced. It looks like there will be enough sealant if the joint is leveled from the plastic to the hull, I just don't want to create a bigger problem.

Thanks for any input.

There is no gasket, only 795 and possibly an adhesive strip of 1/8" foam rubber depending on the year of the boat. Take a look in the archives and you will find a virtual library of material on this subject.

ThanksRalph,
The boat is a 1998.

If that's the case it would appear that the old sealant has dried and separated from both the plastic and the hull. Guess I will cut the loose sides back and reseal.

Appreciate your input!

Most unusual. The 795 is pretty much bomb proof as I have wide beads of port sealant dating back to 1998 and it still looks the same as the date it was installed.

Don't know if yours is exactly the same as mine but check the screws in the glass (if present) for possible leakage as these will be the easiest to seal. I know ............... I did the surrounding bead in one area first and then found out it was as adjacent screw that was causing the problem.

.I'm not sure what's there is 795. I tried to cut out a section of what I thought was the gasket and it was very difficult to cut not like 795 usually is. I did not see any screws in the perimeter of the glazing that's what led me to believe that it was a gasket. I think I'll cut a V groove in the existing material and fill it with 795. I think there will be enough material in the groove to make a good joint and not destroy what is left of the existing seal. If it doesnt work I guess it will have to be removed and redone.

Thanks
