I drive my H216 with a lightweight trolling motor and lead acid battery. It works fine for launch/retrieval and moving around when the wind dies. I have been looking at driving the trolling motor with a lithium battery instead of lead acid which will significantly reduce the weight...2 lbs! I can get one with a 10 amp hour capacity (which is probably far more than I need) for < $100. Anyone have experience with a LI battery?

My Dewalt cordless tools have all switched to the LI batteries and so far I really like them. They have 40 volt packs out that run trimmers and chainsaws. Never thought about it but they would probably power a small trolling motor as well if they ever made one.
The one drawback I see to them from personal use is that instead of slowing down as the battery power drops they just shut off when they reach a certain discharge level. Maybe that is just the tool, but my Dyson cordless vac does the same. I would suggest a power meter of some sort so you know how much juice you have left before you head out.
Good luck and please report back how it works out. We have small mirror sailboat and that would be ideal for that. Seems the Admiral is not real fond of rowing back if the wind dies.

Not knowing the particulars on the motor, or your usage, I would guess that you would need at, a minimum, about three of those 10 AH batteries..
