This is why you don't use liquid gasket maker for vital areas such as the heat exchanger. Apparently the PO pulled the end caps off to check for build up (probably from overheating) than he decided to instead of replacing with original type gaskets he used liquid gasket maker.
Well i started having overheating issues this past weekend and starting with the easiest to the hardest to find the problem. Back flushed the raw water intake, no luck, replaced the impeller with a new gasket, no luck, then my son the diesel mechanic said lets check the heat exchanger, BINGO as you can see by the pictures it was a mess and clogged. Soaked it in CLR and roded it with a rifle cleaning kit. What a difference makes. No heating issues...Lesson learned.
