Linkage issue

Fellow Catalina 30 owners; we have an 1981 C30 which we purchased in 2009.
She has been maintained very well considering the age of the boat. We have been upgrading things as they come up. Last spring we had an issue with the A4, sea cooled/rusted out block and agreed to upgrade to an Beta Marine Diesel. The Beta is a great engine. There are just a few details I need to address.
1.) The two shifters on my pedestal. One is for the throttle and the other for my transmission. This is how my marina kept it. I have looked into one shifter for both, but Edson recommends only hydrolic transmissions for this on the pedestal. My current disk linkage is badly corroded and may not have full movement for the transmission. I plan on rebuilding it this winter. Has anyone had to upgrade this or know an easier fix to this issue.

Not sure what a "disk" linkage is. But, if you are saying your two cables from the pedestal to the engine are shot, you can buy two more and install them. Not hard to do. You just have to measure up the old ones and buy the same lengths. There are clevises on each of the ends of each, which are unattached with the removal of clevis pins. The clevis themselves will unscrew off of the old cables and screw right on the new ones. You have to remove the binnacle compass on the pedestal to access the upper ends of the cables (if internal) and then there is a bolt on the pedestal post itself that secures the clamps which immobilize the outer covers of the cables. This way you don't have to spend more money putting in new controls either.

Bill thanks for the reply.
The disk linkage is located under the aft drawers in the galley. this device reverses the direction of the cable coming from the pedestal. When I put the pedestal transmission lever forward, the cable is attached to the left side of the disk, moves forward turning the disk counterclockwise. there is another cable attached on the opposite side of the disk that pulls another cable back on the transmission putting in forward. Going in Reverse is the opposite action. The throttle acts the same way. This is also how the A4 was hooked up. I would think all the Catalina Sailboats would have this linkage. It is very corroded and I am changing it out this winter. If I cannot find something simiular, I will have to re-build it. Any ideas who may offer a replacement? Or am I going to make it from scratch?

Hi Mortyd.
Good idea to call Catalina. I always figure they would tell me they do not stock the parts, but worth a try. Bill's is the same. We have a saying that they just print money over there. Prices are up a bit and the food is not as good as the past. Bliss Gourme has taken over the General Store and is doing great. Not a resturant but take-out and great food. Haven"t met Clark yet at Kappa. Bill at Sail Repair has repaired my main a couple years ago. Great job and good price.
