Link 1000?

As I posted about a week ago, I combined my two AGM batteries into one bank. I followed the advice given on this forum as well as from Stu and things seemed to work fine for our 3-day weekend away. Now, I'm thinking of installing a battery monitor. I have found a place where I can buy a Link 1000 monitor for under $200 (still in the package but at a used supply store). As those who know more about this stuff probably already know, the Link 1000 will only monitor one battery. I am assuming that I could wire it up to monitor the two batteries in the house bank as if they were one. Is this true, and if so is this advisable, or should I monitor each battery individually? (I'm not too concerned about the battery in bank #2 since I will only be using it for an emergency start battery.)

Yes, John, your two "old" batteries are now

ONE house bank. The Link 1000 will be fine for you and that's a great price. You're right about the emergency reserve (start) bank, just use it and charge it every once in a while to maintain its integrity for its intended purpose.

This is Exactly How I've Wired ......................

.............. my Link 1000 to the two house batteries which are in parallel. They behave as one battery so you monitor them as one battery. Don't forget to set the total amp-hours on the Link 1000 to the sum of these two batteries.

Okay, so I got the Link 1000 ($140) and I have one final question (yeah, right! - if you believe that, then please send me your mailing address and I'll be glad to sell you the title to the Golden Gate Bridge and a good price!) Anyway, my question is this: The Link 1000 is advertised as being used to monitor one battery only (or one bank in my case), but the installation directions show how to wire it to monitor two batteries. Is there any reason not to monitor the two batteries (actually the two banks)?

back a reply to each. I'm sure we can work it out. I just need to know how many colors, leads and lengths of each. As I recall our Link 1000 took seven or eight leads to cover all the connections. The manuals and wire are all on the boat, so...
