I really need some help figuring this one out. I have cut out sole out of my O'Day 22 (actually only the top skin and rotten core). The bottom glass 'skin' is intact. There is another layer of fiberglass underneath this 'skin' and above the bilge. It is curved downwards on top of the bilge and I cannot tell how far it extends towards the berths. I need to know what in the world this piece is and what it is supposed to do. The reason I need to know this is because I have water accumulating underneath the berths that doesn't make it into the bilge. An aside, where is water supposed to drain into the bilge from? Also, I am making every effort to fix the leak(s) by rebedding the entire deck including toerail, rubrail and ports. It shouldn't leak after this, but I need to understand how the liner/sole/bilge construction is supposed to work. I feel that something (possibly the 'mystery fiberglass' sheet) has gotten compressed/broken and is not allowing water to drain to the bilge. Thanks for your help.

limber holes

There are suppose to be limber holes that drain all the compartments to the lowest part of the bilge area....In my boat, O'day 272, there are several that are easily found....others are more difficult. The engine pan does not seem to have a drain hole....Did you actually have blisters or a soft sole or a soft floor inside the boat? in the 272, there is a teak & holly floor, then the fiberglass floor, then another kind of curved fiberglass area that seems to direct water toward the bilge.... this layer curves up and becomes the support for the furniture and also helps create the under settee compartments...seems confusing

Sounds right...

Yes, I did have a soft sole. The reason I cut the top skin of the sole out was to recore it. I am thinking that these limber holes might have compressed or something like that b/c of the sole? Your setup sounds similar, the 'mystery' fiberglass that I am talking about looks as if it is designed to direct water to the bilge, but I can't figure out how it would drain in there, except through the pump/access hatch located aft near the companionway. Does anyone have any 22 specific limber hole information? Thanks for the prompt replies!
