Cat 22 Rigging

A 1995 rigging list passed on to me, drawn by D. Dasal for the Cat 22 MK11, shows: 65 ft. Mainsheet 3/8" Dacron; 45 ft. Jib Sheet 3/8" Dacron; 60 ft. Mainsail Halyard 5/16" Low Stretch; 63 ft. Jib Halyard 5/16" Low Stretch; and 61 ft Spinnaker Halyard 1/4" Low Stretch. These lengths may vary from boat to boat depending how you route them, but line diameters are a good starting place. Some like a little lighter sheet for the headsail in light winds for instance. Like you my first replacement was based on a measurement of my old sheet and I got one way too large and heavy. Seems that dacron swells with use and abuse rather than shrinks as I'd guressed.

Line Diameter

Lee; The line diameter depends on the type of line you choose and if you are racing, cruising or both. Many of the new high tech ropes available today are thinner, stronger and lighter than in the past. It's amazing the changes they have gone through in the 10 years I've been sailing my C22. Most of the big marine supply company,s like Boat US, West Marine, Boater's World, Etc have a chart in their cateloges that show the recomended type of line and their diameters for the size and use of your boat. For the length I would check with a local catalina dealer. Just remember that many of the older catalina's cleated the halyards to the mast and you may need longer lines if you lead them back to the cabin top. I have replaced most of the lines on my boat, some with standard polyester double braid and some with newer type high tech line. Barry Broyles C22 # 1909 "Brighteyes"
