The blocks which makeup the hardware for my traveler have become a victim of age. I'm in the process of replacing the fiddles and line. What size line is recommended for 22' hunter with 220 square feet of sail. I'm getting getting conflicting recommendations depending on who I ask; anything from 1/4" to 1/2". I want to be sure I have a system as robust as needed but I'm not in the habit of over-doing something figuring bigger is better. Can't seem to find the original specs so I'll seek some advice (again) from the form. Thanks

Half inch sounds huge

for a boat that size. I think the layline Co. cataloug lists what you're looking for. look it up on the web.

Check your traveler, winch and cam sizes

I have just replaced my jib lines with 5/16 and that is a little more than is needed but it is good size for the winches and hand. See what size line your traveler takes. You don't want to go too big or small for the traveler, or cam cleets.

check out the harken catalog

in the back are various formulas for jibs, mains, back stays, spins, etc & how to calculate line sizes, turning blocks, friction, purchase power, etc. best of luck
