I would like to replace ALL of the lines on our 1994 Cat 30 tall rig. Is there any information on the cordage in feet required for each line? Jib, main, halyard, furler etc...

I just did the same for my boat.

I checked Defender and Catalina Direct but found that this site had the best prices. They have a nice calculator for your specific model and everything. Just click on the "Store" tab at the top of the page and scroll down to sheets and Halyards. You should be able to find your boat in the list and choose running to cockpit or terminating at the mast.

I ordered just rope choosing to whip and splice the ends myself. They actually checked with me to ensure that I was not crazy (my words not theirs) and that is what I wanted.

You can do up your order and see the lengths, no purchase required.

i have said many times you never know exaxtly you're getting from catalina direct except the use of the name of a company they have no relation to. stick to defender. they're reliable and know about sailboats.

Mortyd,
I think we Catalina owner's are fortunate to have CD as a resource. I consider them as one good source among many that I use to keep my boat afloat. They're especially helpful for Catalina-unique parts. On other parts, they've done the homework on OEM parts, so you know what's right for your boat. And prices are competitive with OEM direct parts.
I don't have a problem with them using Catalina in their name, because that's their specialty.
Again, just one of many to draw on when you have a need.

you are entitled to your opinion and to spend your money how you want to, but i for one see no use using a vendor who sells parts of unknown origin AS LONG AS CATALINA YACHTS IS STILL IN BUSINESS and willing to provide original parts. i know because i bought junk from catalina direct which is how i found out that they have nothing to do with the folk who made out boats. we are very fortunate not to have to deal with o'daydirect, or pearsondirect, etc.

Thanks for the info. That explains why the $40 "owners handbook" that came with my used boat, is almost ALL advertisements. What a rip...

To be fair to CD they are a good resource. I was looking for a boom end casting last week, called Catalina Yachts, they looked but did not have anything and told me to try CD. CD had the part.

Do I always buy from them, no, I shop around. Do I check their site, sure do, even if I don't buy most of the time their parts description is good enough to get me what I want someplace else.

Catalina Direct is NOT Catalina Yachts - Gee, who knew???

mortyd, WADR, there is this on their 'site:

http://www.catalinadirect.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=page.display&page_id=25

It would also help us if we knew more about how you "got burned" 'cuz there are always two sides to every story. I learned that from the editors of Latitude 38, who, while quite opinionated in their own right, do tend to be quite fair and won't take any one side of a story until they get both sides.

Re: Catalina Direct is NOT Catalina Yachts - Gee, who knew??

ok, stu. my boat came with deck fill caps of different colors and with the intended contents carved in - a very good idea in my opinion - but time had taken its toll and they needed replacement. i ordered a complete set from catalina direct and within months the colors had completey faded and three of the caps had developed cracks (maybe letting rain into my diesel fuel?). besides the color fading the plastic used, unlike the pliable originals, was hard and brittle. when i called catalna direct to find out when they had changed to what seemed like such inferior stuff they told me never; they weren't catalina yachts and had nothing to do with making my boat. i then ordered a new set from catalina yachts and they absolutey matched my originals and are still, eight years later, in good condition with very little fading and distinct printing. lesson learned. by the way, the price from the oem was a little lower than from catalina direct.

if somebody opened a business called honda direct and i bought inferior car parts from them i would be just as upset.

Interesting, I knew they sold them but hadn't heard that experience before. Good to know, thanks for letting us all know.

We're pretty far off topic, but Imhave to say there's nothing like good ol' stainless steel. What did you end up doing about your caps, Mortyd?
