I am looking at a Hunter 30 for sale in Tx. Rumor has it that it was once struck by lightning and all the electrical was replaced. There has been some work done on the bottom of the boat which looks like it had the bottom shaved to repair blisters.
If the boat were once struck by lightning, what otherwise unseen damage could there be that might manifest itself later-if any?

Thanks,
Steve

often through hulls and keel bolts (and any thing else metal that is bonded and tocuhes the water) will "appear" to be fine, however the integrity is now gone, and what is left is brittle and unsafe. Swag fittings and rigging points should be examined for damage and weakness as well. Depending on where the strike went to ground, or jumped to other metal, metal backing plates and transom strengtheners, etc could have become delaminated from their glasswork and are now weak as well.

This one says surveyor who is well versed in both the hunter and lightning damage.

You may ask for the insurance quote, or insurance survey after the repairs were made to assess how widespread things were.

Best of luck
