Just an informal survey for my own curiousity. If your boat has been hit by lightning, was it at a dock with short power attached or on a hook/mooring/dock without power/cable attached? Was there any damage to the dock side electrical appliances? A friends boat was recently hit and the damge was the usual electronic gear. Just a note of interest, the lightning actually hit the forspar lightning dissapator at the mast head and the boat was plugged into shore power. One other note of interest, I've heard (after my house was toasted by a strike) that 80% of lightning damage comes through communication lines like telephone and cable. Something to keep in mind if you have those connections to your boat. Down here in South Florida we tend to think of lightning protection starting with good insurance, the rest seems to be random bad luck, keep that lucky rabbit's foot near by...

Strike

Two years ago, while motoring off the bay during a squal, lightning hit the water close to the boat. It took out almost everything electrical, but did not do any structural damage to the boat. BTW, the boat is not grounded or bonded in any way.
