I understand that the factory installed some sort of lightning protection on the mid-80's Hunter 22. Does anyone know what it is and where it is?

Grounded

I believe that your mast is grounded to your keel. See a wire in the bilge to a keel bolt? If it is there that should be all you need.

no such thing

There is no such thing as lightning protection, there are only strategies for dealing with it should you get hit. Grounding the mast to the keel is one of them, but if you get hit you will lose your electronics, gauranteed.

Very informative lightning info links

There was none installed from the factory on my H22. It's definately something that is needed though. Maybe not if you trailer your boat in and out during sunny days only. But, realisticly if your boat stays in the water, whether your in and using your boat or it's tied in at the slip, it should be protected from strikes. I've found a really informative video as well as websites concerning lightning. http://sailnet.com/collections/articles/index.cfm?articleid=hughes0005 http://www.thomson.ece.ufl.edu/lightning/sailboats.ram
